Drone Regulations in the Air

30 October 2017

Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has announced that drones need to be registered. The new regulation applies to citizens and tourists alike.

Drones weighing more than 2 kg, with or without cameras, must be registered by January 2018. Owners who are noncompliant will face up to 5 years in jail and/or a fine of THB 100,000.

Drones may be registered at any NBTC office, police station or at the Civil Aviation Training Centre.

Drones flown for commercial purposes must be licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT). Unlicensed flyers will be subject to one year in jail and/or a THB 40,000 fine. The registration procedure may take up to two months.

For further details, please contact the CAAT: [email protected].
