Bangkok Among World’s 100 Most Expensive Cities

21 December 2018

A survey by Employment Conditions Abroad (ECA) International ranked Bangkok among the world’s 100 most expensive cities. This is the first time that the Thai capital has been included on the list, and can be explained by a strengthening local currency, sustainable economic growth, and a more stable political landscape.

ECA International Asian director Lee Quane said that over the past five years, Bangkok has climbed more than 80 places to the 90th spot on the list indexing the cost of living.

The Thai capital rose 32 places over the previous year, making it considerably more expensive for expatriate employees.

ECA International conducts annual surveys calculating the cost of living for expats in more than 450 cities worldwide. The basket does not include accommodation rental, utilities, car purchases, or school fees.
