Apple, Microsoft and Google Eye Thailand as Production Base

10 March 2020

Silicon Valley giants Apple, Microsoft and Google are looking to shift their hardware production from China to Vietnam and Thailand. The reported reasons include the coronavirus outbreak and the ongoing trade war between the USA and the PRC.

Switching supply chains away from China may, however, take a long time.

In the meantime, Google has already requested its Thailand-based partner to prepare manufacturing lines for its smart home products, and Microsoft is set to launch its Surface device production in Vietnam in the second quarter.
