While a ban on smoking on Pattaya’s beaches remains in effect, the fines that violators must pay are being rolled back. Signs in Thai, English, and Chinese reading: "No Pets. Smoke-Free. No Littering. THB 2,000 Fine” have been erected along the seashore.
Three special forces operatives and municipal officers patrol the beach, said Pattaya Deputy Mayor Bandit Khunajak. In addition, CCTV cameras will be used to spot violators.
Initially, violators could face a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a fine of THB 100,000 (around US $3,000), or both. The ban came into effect on 1 November 2017.
