A ‘cheese lava’ burger created by Thavorn Beach Resort and Spa won the fourth annual “Phuket’s Best Burger” competition this spring. The competition, which featured chefs and restaurateurs from across the island, crowned three winners in all. The win by Thavorn Beach Resort and Spa was its second in a row. Its award-winning Cheese Lava burger incorporated melted cheddar and brie cheese with Wagyu beef, accompanied by crispy bacon, cherry tomatoes, fresh rocket leaves, and tomato sauce, all served in a Brioche bun. The Coast Beach Club’s Swiss-inspired Valaisan took runner-up honors. It was composed of Australian Wagyu beef, crispy bacon, Raclette (a semi-hard cheese made from cow’s milk), fresh tomatoes, minced Iceberg lettuce and rocket leaves dressed with tartar and BBQ sauces, all stuffed into a Brioche bun sprinkled with pumpkin and poppy seeds for a richer taste. The Kuzu Burger, by Xana Beach Club, rounded out the top three recipes. Its entry presented an amazing Mediterranean-themed burger featuring spicy smoked lamb, feta cheese, rosemary, green papaya, cucumber mint Tzatziki, bell peppers and mushrooms roasted in extra virgin olive oil and homemade smoky-flavoured mint ketchup. Like the other two winners, the Xana team used a Brioche bun for its culinary masterpiece. This year’s award-winning burger recipes can be found on the Phuket News TV channel on YouTube. Pattaya Embraces Police App Now, Pattaya police can be summoned using can the ‘Police iLert You’ smartphone app, according to Chonburi police chief, Pol. Maj. Gen. Nantachart Suppamongkol and Pattaya police chief Col. Apichai Kroppech. In August 2013, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology presented iLert You to improve communication with emergency services, especially when hotlines are busy. Before the application was officially launched, it had been tested by the National Institute for Emergency Medicine, Thai Airways International, Advanced Info Service, and the Bangkok Hospital network. In 2015, it became available on the Apple Store and Google Play Market, but Pattaya authorities did not immediately approve it for use within the city. Now, tourists and residents alike are encouraged to download the app and enjoy the convenience it provides to secure their safety.
